COASTAL ROAD SOUTH - ACTIVITIES
ATTRACTIONS AND DINING OPTIONS
A variety of special attractions are along the coastal road south (Mexico Hwy 200), which follows the water and turns inland at Boca de Tomatlan, a fishing village with scheduled water ferry service. These activities are easily accessible to guests. Listings below are shown in order over a distance of 15.8 kilometers (9.8 miles) from town. 1. La Playita at Lindo Mar (2.5km) Next to El Set, which has a more visible sign. This is a restaurant with a great, ocean-side atmosphere that is recommended for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. From the street, take Lindo Mar elevator to Level 1; return to Level 7. It is popular among locals. If reservations are desired, phone 322-15556 or 322-15551. (This restaurant also can be reached by taking a 30 minute walk south on the beach and past four small Conchas Chinas beaches.) 2. Playa Gamelas (7.7km) – A small, but somewhat secluded beach for swimming and for snorkeling near rocks at ends. Because of its small parking areas and 120 stairs that lead to the beach, most visitors are not aware of this beautiful spot. 3. Bungee Jumping over Ocean (8.3km) 4. Playa Mismaloya and Direct Access to Los Arcos Islands (11.3km) -- Excellent snorkeling in and around large caves, which can be reached in ten minutes by small boat. Boats are available at the beach for USD$40 per hour with all equipment included. 5. Chino’s Paradise and Preditor Movie Set (Also at the 11.3km turnoff mark)- River swimming hole, role swing, natural rock slide, and Preditor Zip Line. Take dirt road opposite the Playa Mismaloya turnoff and the first right fork inland. 6. Le Kliff Restaurant (14.8km) – Restaurant with special atmosphere and spectacular ocean view. To enjoy the experience and save, have lunch or a snack. www.lekliff.com 7. Boca de Tomatlon (15.8km) -- A small fishing village with small boats for charter and scheduled water taxi service for locals and all who would like to join them. From Boca de Tomatlon, get the most direct, enjoyable, and least expensive boat trips (US$6 per direction) to several otherwise inaccessible beaches – Las Animas (10 minutes); Quimixto (10 more minutes); Majahuitas (5 more minutes); and Yelapa (another 10 minutes). Outbound trips depart hourly from 10:00am through 1:00pm. Return trips are roughly on the half hour. These are the best of bargains. Also, this is a launching point for small, private fishing and snorkeling boats with flexible schedules such as Sergio's "Rumsey", which comes with fishing and snorkeling gear for up to ten people at reasonable rates. This is a great outing and attractive deal for two to ten people. In addition, from Boca de Tomatlon, one can hike 30 minutes or tale a 7 minute boat ride to Ocean Grill, an outstanding dining experience, and Colomitos, a remote, picturesque beach. 8. Vallarta Botanical Gardens - Jungle Walk and Lunch (22.5 km) – The creation of an adventurous American woman and son, this is their paradise. - vallartabotanicalgardens.com |
